I bought this pack last spring with the intent of using it as both a long day pack and an over night/multi-day pack. It was a great all around pack all summer hauling gear and water to my hunting spot but the real test and what made me a true believer is when I finally arrowed a big buck and had to pack him out last week. Being able to expand out the large pocket away from the frame and put the weight of nearly the entire deer next to my body, along with the skull on top made the seemingly impossible hike out somewhat bearable. After hauling the 116 pounds of meat and gear off the mountain for 4.5 miles, there was no doubt that I will recommend this pack to everyone I know. Even with that much weight on, it was distributed well so that there were no major ache points anywhere.
There is no question in my mind that I will use a slumberjack pack, especially the 4500, from here on out. I'm a true believer in the product and the quality it is made of. Mitch on Sep 10th 2016
I just got back from an extremely tough backcountry scouting trip in Utah, and this pack was the envy of everyone in camp. It handled everything I threw at it with ease, and the detachable day pack was a God send once we had camp set up and were just scouting around. It was in the 90's and the fact that both packs were hydration bladder compatible was great. Cody on Aug 15th 2016
Everything in the specs the videos the description is exactly what this pack is. I’ve filled it up with about 40 lbs. and took the dogs for a three mile walk. Felt good and stayed tight to me. Going to helping on a cow Elk hunt this year and have a deer tag in my SJK pocket. I would buy this pack again. Don J Northern Nevada on Jun 24th 2016
I got this pack in the mail about a week ago and I am very impressed. I went to a major outdoor and hunting store and tried on many store brand and top leading packs. I didn't like them as much as I wanted to. Most didn't seem to have enough pockets or compartments. I thought I would try this pack, since it was on sale, before I purchased any of the one on the rack. I am so glad that I did. This pack fits into everything I wanted from a pack. The lashing points and the straps that are built in to the pack make it extremely versatile. I love the removable day pak as well. As I was investigating the day pack I found that it to was hydration comparable. Additionally, the ability to load both top and side make loading and organizing options really great.
I bought this pack and the frame hauler together. I think that the pack is more than sufficient to carry the load, but I wanted to have both options. I will probably haul in both to base camp, and then leave the frame hauler to there until I need to pack out meat. I also plan to prep and prepare for the hike/hunt with the frame hauler and put weights on it.
Things I would change or improve on:
Maybe thicker shoulder straps. They are nice but I think could be thicker.
There is no rain fly for this pack. Not a big deal but maybe having one that comes with the pack would be nice.
All in all, I am really glad I chose to make the move to the Slumber Jack 4500. I can not wait to take it out this season!

Hands down the best pack I've ever used. I spent 8 days in the high country living off of my back and was able to fit everything I needed and then some. My pack weighed 94lbs once I got home with all my gear, the remaining food, and the hind quarter of my buddies buck. For the money this pack can't be beat. Cody Mattson on May 23rd 2016
I just received my new pack so haven't gotten it into the field yet for a full test but I have to say this is a very well thought out pack. The construction is typical Slumberjack awesome quality and I love the options. The detachable front day pack is a great size that keeps everything I use most front and center then detaches so I can shed all the weight of the full pack and still have all my essentials. The adjustable torso is awesome and the fact that I can pack out my quarters with the extension style lashing system is such a great idea. I am really happy with it so far but haven't been on a full on excursion yet but from what I see this pack will do everything I need and probably much more for a long time. Rosscoe on May 18th 2016
This pack was used on a 17 day elk & deer hunt, hike, spike, meat haul. This pack performed flawlessly. Carried it both as a day pack and fully loaded with boned meat. Carried comfortable and very stable both ways. Couldn't be happier. Have used lots of other name brand hunting packs, but this one has what you NEED. And thank you for the Kryptek pattern! This pack is downright awesome. It provides total versatility, packability, durability and comfort. Versatility? It is basically three packs in one. Pack it to capacity to get to camp. Pull off the front pack for a day pack. Score a big kill?Take advantage of the frame system for a comfortable pack out. Packability? Meat. Gear. Weapons. Ammo. Plenty of room for it all. The weapons carrier is well balanced on the center of the pack.. also GLAD to see that someone finally made a pack that is holster compatible (paddle at the hip). Durability & Comfort? Well, lets just be clear.. it does not stand up to intense heat! I strapped mine to my hitch rack and one of the straps was melted by the exhaust pipe.. oops. A few stitches later, and we were ready to roll. Aside from that, I have had great luck with the pack standing up to sharp rocks, cactus, and whatever else mother nature has thrown at us. I am beyond impressed with Slumberjack packs. If you're on the fence.. relax. You have nothing to worry about! Adam on Apr 8th 2015
The pack is simple in its design, comfortable and you can get more in it than you would want to carry! On a recent wolf hunt, this pack performed great, the waist belt adjusted to me quickly and rode comfortably over several days. The detachable smaller pack is ideal for small items. I needed to make a water run down the mountain, I detached the small pack and used it to haul the water bottles instead of my large pack. Great pack for the price! Jim on Mar 31st 2015
The way that this pack is constructed makes it perfect for the hunter or outdoor enthusiast who wants a multi-function pack. On my first trip with it I carried over 45 lbs of gear over rough terrain with no comfort issues. It can be used for overnighters, multi-day pack trips, or carrying a large load, whether that's an elk cape and rack or large equipment, such as a hard case with sensitive gear. The kidney pads are well placed and the support system is very comfortable. The detachable day pack makes the Bounty 4500 ideal for making base camp and then going out with only the supplies you need and not having to bring another pack to accomplish that. Normally I don't like packs with camo patterns (I left that behind long ago) but the Highlander pattern is not obnoxious and doesn't make me look too 'tacticool.' GLEN on Mar 23rd 2015
Highly impressed with the fit, finish and layout of this pack. It is a jack of all trades if you are hiking in for a spike camp. The adjustability is welcome, as I have a torso on the short side. I humped this thing with 60+ lbs and it never bit into me. The field pack is a complete entity, just pop it off and hit the trail. A few niggles--I'd love to see the ammo loops on this as with the Carbine, and the access to the side pockets is a little restricted when all loaded up, but still useful and manageable. My Vortex bipod tucked in there just fine, and never did I feel it was at risk for popping out unawares. For the money, you are hard pressed to find an equal in versatility, ergonomics, and the Kryptek pattern is just the cherry on top. Scott on Oct 27th 2014
The Bounty was a great addition to my elk hunt this year. It fit everything I needed for a spike camp and worked great as a daypack in-between. The trophy hauling system looks like it will function great, too bad I didn't bag an elk to try it first hand! My only gripe is that it needs easily accessible water bottle pockets but that's easily mendable with some other accessories. I'd definitely recommend this pack. Chris on Oct 27th 2014
I was very pleased while using the Bounty on a 5 day backpacking elk hunt. The frame and suspension handled the 60# packing in very well and the system was versatile enough to convert to a day pack for hunting. The quality of construction was obvious and the longer the trip lasted the more impressed I was. After my experience with the Bounty my Eberlestock pack is now up for sale. 5 stars.
