Great tent, information hard to get
Only 2 cons to this tent but I want to get them out-of-the-way since this is where I came looking for help.
Instructions are not included. There is a piece of paper directing you to this site to download from the link above. I suggest downloading them ahead of time if you are camping in an area without reception. Tent does not match the pictures on the box – the clips are not all the way up, only two near the bottom and then sleeves where it crosses at the top. Pretty standard set up you can do mostly without instruction, I just left off the short cross poles at the top thinking they were for the shade awning. Saw from another review these actually go front to back and help square off the top of the tent. It says polls are color-coded, but all of ours were green. 2 long poles and 2 short poles.
The shade awning poles are not included. A great feature that is a selling point and also pictured prominently for this tent, I had to search everywhere to find that these are trekking poles purchased separately and turned upside down. There are no grommets on the ends of the rain fly door, just fabric loops and stretch cord loops so you need something that will go through the loop but then prevent it from sliding down.
These issues aside, this tent was really great for family camping. We don’t camp very often so my issues with the set up may have come from inexperience. I loved how the rain fly was not touching the tent screen anywhere – no problems with condensation on a cold night. There was so much room in this tent, we had three large cots in there with room for a table in the middle and all of our gear. The vestibule was an amazing future I hadn’t seen before and it was great for things we didn’t want to get rained on but also didn’t want in the tent. I am 5‘9“ and had plenty of headroom to stand up tall. Once we went back and added the short poles to square off the top, it was even better.
We went camping late October and it did get pretty hot in the tent during the day – I wish the rain fly had some windows for ventilation as we were in a large open area. We kept the rain fly door rolled up, but didn’t want to take it all the way off for privacy.
Overall, I think this tenant is a great value.
